In the Museum of Natural History , located in the Noris Hall in Nuremberg you may find part
of the collections that have been assembled in the course of the past 200 years by the
members of the Society.
What has begun with a few bugs and plants today includes above all
collections in the fields of geology, karst studies, speleology, prehistory, archeology as well as
ethnology.
We show you the first specimens of dinosaurs found on the European mainland, the only
exhibition in Western Europe concerning a Siberian population, the Nivchi, the biggest
meteorite containing iron to be seen in Germany, the only skeleton of a new-born baby cavebear
in Southern Germany, the oldest sword found in the Nuremberg area, and the only
permanent exhibition of Nabatean culture (Petra) in Europe.
The museum of the second oldest society with interest in the science of nature presents the
results of their research and their collections. Exhibitions show the main research project,
Nuremberg und its surrounding area.
The museum run by its members on a voluntary basis tells natural and cultural history not
only by presenting impressive originals but also by fascinating models and reconstructions.
Furthermore you will find special exhibitions concerning a great variety of topics.
There is an open-air aquarium and terrarium at Stein near Nuremberg which is open to
visitors every Saturday and Sunday between May and September. This facility may be of
particular interest for children as they may find local fish and reptiles that cannot easily be
seen in open nature - and rarely in a zoo.
